The Journey of Polaris - A Great Melbourne/Australian Story
Posted on December 18 2014
To help get our Polaris blog off the ground, we thought it was the perfect time to share with you the story of how our company became what it is today.
The Polaris journey starts with its Managing Director and Founder, Wayne Guest.
Wayne’s passion for new and innovative technology has made Polaris Communications into the successful company that it is today.
In 1981, Wayne - young, inexperienced but full of energy - sold his car and used the funds to set up his telecommunications business in downtown Melbourne, Australia.
With only a telephone and a Yellow Pages at his disposal, Wayne systematically and doggedly called one business after another. His efforts slowly gained traction and soon enough he was installing telephone systems for small to medium sized companies.
The direction of the company was changed shortly after from selling telephones to selling headsets into the budding call centre industry. At that time, Polaris was the sole distributor of Plantronics headsets in Australia and was responsible for their introduction and mass distribution across the country.
In the year 2000, Polaris was nearly 20 years old and had grown to be one of the largest distributors of headset products to contact centres in Australia. But with the growth of the call centre industry came an increase in what came to be known as ‘acoustic shock injury’. Click here to read more about Acoustic Shock.
Polaris personally undertook to address the issue of acoustic safety in call centres by heavily investing in the development of the ‘Soundshield’ acoustic protection device.
The small Australian company released the Soundshield Mark I in 2002 which emerged as the world’s best acoustic safety solution.
Further Soundshield releases followed and to this day Polaris has equipped over 130,000 call centre workstations in Australia and Europe, and achieved enormous success.
Polaris redesigned the Soundshield from the ground up. Proudly bringing together the best all-Australian design and engineering team, the award-winning Soundshield 4G Acoustic Safety device was released in 2012.
The Soundshield Wireless Headset followed close on its heels and now provides contact centres with the only true acoustically safe wireless headset solution.
Polaris used the advanced technology in the Soundshield products to develop the HD Wireless Headset which is allowing Polaris to move successfully beyond the contact centre space and into the general office market.
With the company’s constant passion for innovation and technology, and striving for excellence, more award winning products are in store!
